A Simple Step to Overcome Your Fear Today

Life can be scary.

You feel stuck.

You can’t move forward or backwards.

Everyone seems to have gone ahead of you and you are still shaking in your boots.

Every day, you tell yourself you will achieve your dreams tomorrow. You will follow your heart tomorrow. But the days turn into months and the months turn into years.

Like Meredith Willson said, “you pile up enough tomorrows, and you’ll find you’re left with nothing but a lot of empty yesterdays”.

You can tell yourself you’re busy. You don’t have the time. And yes, you are busy. I can’t argue with that. Today’s world has caught us in a never-ending cycle of busyness. But Socrates warned us to “beware the barrenness of a busy life”.

Your hesitation to move towards your dreams might be because you’re busy. But most people are crippled by the cold grip of fear.

They’re afraid they’ll fall flat on their faces and everyone will laugh at them.

They are scared they’ll succeed and won’t fit in with their friends and families anymore.

They are stuck in a world of unfulfilled dreams, longings that will never be realized.

Living a life without dreams doesn’t require you to overcome your fears.

The truth is once you decide to live your dreams, all your fears come rushing back to you.

For a long time, I lived in fear. I was scared of my own shadow. I didn’t think I could live the life I truly wanted. I took the easy path — the path of least resistance.

I don’t like motivational speeches. I prefer practical steps. But sometimes, we need a big motivational push.

If we don’t get pushed, we will stay stuck in lives filled with regrets and maybes.

Every step of the way, it’s been hard to overcome my fear — starting a blog, publishing articles on Medium, sending emails to subscribers and pitching to clients.

But I’m learning to take a small step. It gets easier with each small step I take.

Fear sucks you of hope — your thirst for the future.

If you let it, you will never achieve anything significant.

You won’t get what you want.

I dare you today to take that small step. Just a small step.

This step is the smallest activity you can do today that will take you closer to your goals.

Your small step can be:

Write and publish your first article.

Sing your first song.

Crack your first joke.

Send at least one application for your dream job.

Do one thing today!

Stop taking forever to plan.

Execution is everything.

You can plan for years. Nothing will get done until you execute.

I love planning but I love doing more because it helps me refine my plan quickly.

Clarity comes through engagement.

Take one step today.

You’ll regret it if you don’t.
